The Mark Roberts Collection

FOR SALE - THE LARGEST COLLECTION OF HORSE BRASSES IN THE WORLD?

Auction of Mark Roberts Brasses Auctioneers, Rogers Jones & Co of Colwyn Bay are to offer for sale by public auction on November 28th, the vast collection of horse brasses and related items which were in the ownership of the late and popular Mr William Mark Roberts (known to all as Mark) of Cefn, St Asaph.

Eighty-nine year old Mr Roberts passed away in April of this year and the collection is being disposed of by his family.

Mr Roberts was a very well-known character and easily recognisable in tractor rallies, agricultural shows, ploughing competitions and the like, where he used to take his horse brasses to be displayed. He would buy horse brasses via several sources, but seldom, if ever sold any. His pure pleasure was taking them to these shows and enjoying the banter with crowds who flocked to see his magnificent collection.

A recent heavy horse article speculated that this could be the largest one owner collection of horse brasses in the world.

Estimate: Collectively £8,000-12,000

They were sold in lots 265 to 328, the pictures can still be seen  click here
